Congratulations to Citizen Artists Robyn McKee, William Taylor, Matthew Carroll, and Gianfranco Schiaretta for acceptance of their works in two regional exhibitions: Art Enables’ “Outside Forces” (September 5 - October 21; Washington, DC) and Make Studio’s virtual exhibition “Cordially Invited VI” (October 13 - November 11; Baltimore, MD).

A photo of a quilted art piece hanging against a gray wall. The piece is made of colorful fabrics: in the center is a batik rectangle depicted a Christmas tree with embroidered and beaded ornaments. Beads and found jewelry have been added.

Robyn McKee’s 2023 Christmas in the Jungle (quilted and batiked reclaimed textiles, beads, embroidery floss, found jewelry), on view now in Art Enables’ exhibition Outside Forces.

From left to right: William Taylor’s 2023 Combs are for Suckers, Matthew Carroll’s 2023 Colors of Chaos, and Gianfranco Schiaretta’s 2023 Tut Tut Looks Like Rain, on view in Make Studio’s virtual exhibition Cordially Invited VI. Media: quilted and batiked reclaimed textiles, beads, embroidery floss, chandelier crystals, wood.

Dynamic Duo's Reception

Dynamic Duo’s

Artists of the CCS Art Lab group met every Friday from October-December for a 1-1 mentorship project with artists from Associated Artists of Pittsburgh. These artist pairs worked diligently to create a collaborative body of work together and currently have an exhibition up at the IceHouse Studios in Lawrenceville. Each artist pair worked in tandem while learning about the tools of the trade in an artist's life.

This project & exhibition was made possible with generosity from the Arts, Equity, & Education Fund.

Film Pittsburgh + CCS

The ReelAbilities Film Festival was located at the Carnegie Museum of Art (CMOA). The Artwork created at the Andy Warhol Museum during our summer workshops was exhibited as part of the film receptions each evening.

September 8-12th, 2021

“ReelAbilities Pittsburgh has brought our community together to explore and celebrate the lives and stories of individuals living with disabilities. In addition to presenting award-winning contemporary films, the festival hosts an art exhibit featuring work by artists living with disabilities as well as engaging post-film discussions with special guests from disability communities who bring to life the films’ themes. Every screening is followed by lively receptions that enable filmmakers and guests to mingle, providing a safe forum for people of all abilities to meet, interact, and learn about one another.”

CCS + CDCP Fellowship

In March of 2020 six artist pairs met virtually to begin creative partnerships set up by Casey Droege Cultural Productions & Creative Citizen Studios. Adapting to the constraints of the global pandemic artists exchanged drawings, worked independently and traded pieces back and forth, and finally met in person to further develop their collaborative projects. Using a variety of mediums including painting, drawing, sculpture, printmaking, and photography, the pieces in this exhibition show a culmination of many hours of collaborative creative exchange. The exhibition for this event ran from August 29th - September 13th with an Appointment Only Reception on Saturday, August 29th.
