Memories, Jami Johnson

This image was created by CCS artist, Jami Johnson alongside her professional mentor, Haylee Ebersole. Jami is visually impaired and created this work through using yarn and an adapted version of crochet which she came up with on her own. This project represents our strong connections to other artists and arts organizations that have assisted CCS artists to grow their personal styles and creations. Mentorships are very valuable resources to our programming.

Ginko one, Lauren lewandowski

This image was created by ccs artist, Lauren Lewandowski. Lauren is always inspired by guest artists in our visual arts classes. She created this work after viewing the work of Pittsburgh mixed media artist, Ramon Riley, during his exhibition at the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts & Media. This piece demonstrates the strong connections CCS has to visiting artists who come to our classes as guests.

Self Portrait, Matthew Carroll

Matthew created this self portrait during CCS visual arts classes during a unit about color mixing and blending. While we explored many avenues of color theory, we really thought careful about the mixing of our skin tones through a self portrait lesson. Each artist brought their own unique style to their self portrait, truly expressing themselves. This portrait demonstrates our encouragement in our classes to demonstrate authenticity and develop their own personal style.

Hidden creatures, Mick fisher

Mick is a master of contour line. He just recently began a small series of works inspired by animals and creatures in nature who hide within their environments for protection. Mick was able to work alongside Lauren Braun to sharpen his animal camouflage imagery during a recent partnership program. Mick’s work demonstrates impressive drawing skills and commitment to our classes. He has been coming to CCS visual arts classes for 9 years and started in Art Lab when we began it in late 2019.

Neurographica, Daijah Massie

Daijah is very inspired by pattern, line and small elaborate doodles. She was paired with mentor, John Burt Sanders, to create this powerful world of pattern with ink well pens and oil paint. These artists worked collaboratively on these pieces, turning the image to edit each others work and add their own personal touches. This work represents CCS’s commitment to inclusive work and the power of collaboration.
